I'm Jenny, and Canvas Cake Company started the way so many good things do - by accident.
For years, I'd had a successful nail art business ’10 Blank Canvases’ where I worked with celebrities and brands making custom nail art designs that were sold in Boots, featured in London Fashion Week, and countless magazines. But I was ready for something new, a different way to express my creativity. That's when I started making cakes for friends and family to fill my creative itch.
The name Canvas Cake Company was a nod to my old business – where I can take any medium and use it as my canvas to create.
Growing up, my mum made us the most incredible birthday cakes. We had these Jane Asher cake books that I'd pore over for hours, in awe of all the small details and fun designs. Those moments in the kitchen with her are probably where it all began.
Now, years later, I'm here in London creating cakes that fool people – the kind that look so real you'd never guess they're edible.
During the festive season I switch my cake hat for a gingerbread one, creating custom projects in all shapes and sizes. This side of the business began a few years ago when I took the opportunity to enter a gingerbread competition at the Ideal Home Show – building my first ever creation – a gingerbread bakery and winning first place. Since then, I've made hundreds of gingerbread houses in all shapes and sizes.
If you've got a celebration coming up and fancy a cake that'll make people do a double-take, I'd love to hear from you.
